Set in the old Bata Shoe factory, steeped in history, boasting modern offices, and carefully designed to honour the past while embracing the future, this unique workspace seamlessly blends industrial heritage with contemporary design. Exposed brick walls, high ceilings, and original factory features pay tribute to its storied past, while state-of-the-art amenities and thoughtfully curated interiors create a dynamic environment that fosters innovation and collaboration.
Bata Shoe Factory was purchased by Melsom Holdings Ltd. in the late 90’s, with the administration block listed as a Grade 2 building. The first offices were built on the first floor, with a document Archiving Business set up on the upper floors. As demand changed, this led to the development of Self-Storage taking over the 2nd to 4th floors and an expansion of serviced offices. The Thames Enterprise Centre now features office spaces throughout the ground and first floors, with Meeting Rooms and co-working spaces available to office tenants and local businesses.
Modern Integration of Bata History
The Bata Factory is comprised of many buildings as part of the Thames Industrial Park, with Building 13 (now known as the Thames Enterprise Centre) featured as the Administration block. Our building still retains its history, including the Directors’ and Broad rooms. During your visit to the site, you may also see boot templates and an information board found opposite the Reception desk, which further highlights the history of the site. This includes a brief history of the factory, along with a look at the area built for the workers.
As Bata is a significant part of the building, we intend to keep the history alive with any plans relating to the Thames Enterprise Centre. We also work with the Bata Heritage Centre as they host tours and provide opportunities for the community. This is a great way to learn more about the history while visiting key locations in the area.
Upcoming Tour from Bata Heritage Centre
An event to learn and discover more about the Bata Shoe Factory will be hosted in April. Along with a look at historic photos and items produced by the factory, a tour is also given of the entire estate and the contributions to East Tilbury that the factory produced. This is an excellent opportunity to dive into the history and also answer any questions you may have regarding the site and the work-life during the heyday of the business.
Whether you’re a startup, a creative agency, or an established business, the revitalized Bata Shoe Factory offers a distinctive setting that inspires productivity and fosters community.
